What’s up world? I’m Liv Varney
My pronouns: She/They
I’m a visual designer based in New Hampshire. For the last five and a half years, I spent most of my time working in higher education marketing while also pouring creative energy into other projects that help sharpen my skills. When I’m not focused on university work, I’m designing or printing t-shirts for my brand, Young Fellow Clothing, along with taking on the occasional freelance project.
Here’s a little background, buckle up.
I studied at two schools to earn my degree. I started with a year and a half at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire, then took a semester off before transferring to Montserrat College of Art in downtown Beverly, Massachusetts.
Not long after finishing school, I joined Puma as a junior designer for their internal creative agency. I helped develop digital and printed retail displays for the footwear company’s promotional efforts. These retail environments featured footwear and apparel shops that reflected music industry styles and brand ambassador trends. The experience taught me the basics of how a design agency functions along with standard processes for supporting and promoting a brand.
When my time at Puma came to an end, I explored new areas and discovered that user experience and digital product design were skills worth developing. I was fortunate to work with designers at Mad*Pow (now BORN XDS) for nine months. I helped build a product that streamlines access to well-known prescription drugs for customers and allows patients to communicate with their providers. The product went through several launch updates, with features added along the way to create a fully functional web tool. I worked on designing the prototypes for how the application would look and operate for patients and providers using it.
I eventually landed at the University of New Hampshire in fall of 2019. I worked in the in-house agency as a visual designer. While my job duties varied, I was responsible for designing a flexible suite of ADA-compliant recruitment templates to support student outreach across various departments. These included postcards, one-pagers, signage, and posters in multiple sizes and formats, all optimized for accessibility and ease of use. The goal was to create inclusive, customizable materials that aligned with brand standards while ensuring equal access to information for all students, including those with disabilities. The templates continue to empower departments to communicate more effectively and ethically with their audiences. In addition to this, I helped produce navigational signage, campus maps, as well as digital assets for social media and paid digital avenues used across the university.
